Kanaky-New Caledonia: The total responsibility of colonial France

Bulletin No46 mai 2024  The serious events taking place in Kanaky-New Caledonia are the result of permanent attacks on the inalienable right to self-determination and independence of the Kanak people. We had underlinedin our Hebdo-Communistes No. 869how the bill modifying the composition of the electoral body was a new attack on the fundamental rights of this people [1] : "the French colonial power intends to create, by a new blow by force, the conditions of its colonial domination It has in fact decided to postpone the provincial elections planned for 2024 and above all to open the way to a modification of the electoral body, unfavorable to the indigenous populations by including the new metropolitan arrivals in order to a settlement to oust the rights of the Kanak people to their independence. This imposition of a change in the electoral body is a violation of the Noumea agreements which made it possible to initiate a process of decolonization.
Because the basic problem is there, France, the colonial power, has for more than 170 years intended to maintain its domination over Kanaky-New Caledonia by imposing settlement colonization, the objective of which was clearly defined by Pierre Messmer [2] when he was Prime Minister: " In the long term, indigenous nationalist demands will only be avoided if non-Pacific communities represent a majority population. "
France must comply with the spirit of resolution 1514 [3] of December 14, 1960 of the UN General Assembly which recalls the rights of colonized peoples. This resolution clearly indicates that changes to the social composition are an attack on this right, this is what underlines the recent press release from the French Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa (AFASPA) [4] .
For its part, our party renews its support for the legitimate struggle of the Kanak people for their independence. The situation developing today in Kanaky-New Caledonia is the total responsibility of colonial France.
