Bulletin N°60 2025  The United States is becoming increasingly threatening towards Venezuela and Colombia. They have just authorized the CIA to operate in Venezuela, placed a $50 million bounty on Maduro's head, and illegally bombed and destroyed vessels in territorial waters. The US is concentrating air and naval forces near the Venezuelan coast. For its part, Colombia faces a " threat of invasion or land or military action," declared Colombian Interior Minister Armando Benedetti on Monday, October 20. He also raised the possibility of the United States spraying glyphosate on drug crops. Armando Benedetti warned that such an operation would constitute an infringement onhis country'ssovereignty
The pretext for this military threat would be the fight against drug trafficking, of which the Presidents of Colombia, G. Petro Colombia, and N. Maduro of Venezuela would not only be accomplices but organizers.
This aggressive imperialist action by the United States is reminiscent of the worst moments in the long list of their interventions against Latin American countries, their support for the bloody dictatorships they backed and/or installed, the economic exploitation of their natural resources and labor, not to mention the illegal blockade they impose on Cuba despite the almost unanimous protests of UN members.
This action obviously has nothing to do with the drug issue, but everything to do with the Monroe Doctrine, defined in the 19th century , which designated Latin America, and more specifically the Caribbean region, as the exclusive domain of imperialist domination. Carlos Lazo, leader of the Communist Party of Venezuela, reiterated this point in an interview with the newspaper Tribuna Popular on October 20: "  Anyone who knows the history of Latin America cannot believe that the CIA will conduct an anti-drug operation  ," Lazo stated. "  As long as the Socialist Bloc existed, Washington used the threat of communism as a pretext to justify coups, invasions, and covert operations. After 9/11, its alibi became the fight against terrorism, and it now intends to use the fight against drug trafficking to conceal extrajudicial killings in the Caribbean  ," he denounced. The communist leader recalled that CIA covert operations "  have sown blood and destabilized the continent  ," citing as examples the funding of the  Contras in Nicaragua in the 1980s, as well as US intervention in Guatemala, Chile, and Brazil, where it facilitated the overthrow of legitimate governments or supported dictatorships responsible for serious human rights violations. Lazo emphasized that the recent attacks perpetrated by US forces in the Caribbean "  constitute a flagrant violation of international law  ," which already extends to other countries such as Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last Sunday that the Pentagon had conducted an attack on Friday against a ship allegedly carrying drugs in international waters. According to him, the ship was linked to a Colombian terrorist organization; however, he presented no evidence to support his accusations. In a previous attack on October 14, a 28-year-old fisherman from Trinidad and Tobago was killed. "Latin America must unite to reject these attacks," Lazo added.
This indeed indispensable support, G. Petro received from Cuba through its President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who declared: " We reject the interference and lies of the United States government, which is trying to reimpose the Monroe Doctrine in its relations with the sovereign nations of Latin America and the Caribbean ," rejecting the threats " from the Northern Cartel, the main money launderer for drug trafficking, from the Trump administration and the United States, particularly in the Caribbean, against the governments of Venezuela and Colombia, falsely accusing them of being drug cartel leaders to justify invasions for the sole purpose of seizing resources such as oil, gold, coltan, and, in the Amazon rainforest, water. "
Faced with the aggressive actions of US imperialism, our party renews its support for the peoples of Latin America in their struggle for their national sovereignty: USA hands off Venezuela and Colombia!
